The End-User Archive consists of an assemblage of modified cassette players, 1980s synthesizers, rotary phones, high school A/V equipment, electronic drum pads, film strips, VHS tapes, Commodore-64 monitors, and on and on. Bart Trotman has visited nearly every second-hand store in the southeast and has taken from most of them, a story. Thrift stores have been and continue to be the sonic trashcan for our collective identity. Some sort of audio archetype is mentally formed when listening to samples taken from self-help tapes, answering machine messages, acting instructions, or vocabulary lessons.
